Cover Design

On a bookshelf, the cover is the first thing that potential buyers will see.  Sometimes it means the difference between whether a person picks up and book and looks at it or not.  Online buyers are not as concerned about book covers and search more on the basis of content.  This doesn't mean that you should neglect the importance of a good book cover.

Book covers range from plain to extravagant.  Sometimes the cover tells you exactly what to expect from a book and other times they only give a title and an abstract picture that you are left wondering how it relates to the rest of the book.

Regardless of what your preferences are, you need a cover.  Usually the front will display the title, the author, and possibly a picture.  Sometimes instead of a picture the words of the title are arranged in different patterns.

The back cover is more plain.  If there is a picture, there is usually a smaller version on the back.  The back also contains the ISBN (if applicable) reviews of the book or a short synopsis and a biography of the writer with a picture possibly included.

For a book cover you have three options, design your own, select one of our templates, or let us design your cover for you.

There are many templates from which to choose from.  All you need to do is select which cover you like best and then provide us the information.  We'll format it and send it to you for your approval.

Custom cover

For a custom cover, you will have the option of giving input or letting the design totally up to our artists.  If you have a particular design in mind that we aren't capable of creating, we'll contact you with alternatives.

For the most part, covers will incorporate photographs of people, places, and things.  In some instances original artwork may be used.  If you prefer original artwork/illustrations contact us with what you desire.

Logo design

We can design a logo for your book that can be used on the title page and/or chapter headings.  In most cases this will be similar to the main picture on the book cover.  If you would like something different from the cover or did not order a custom cover design, this can also be arranged.

Logos used inside a book will be in grayscale and not color unless you request color.  Color printing (aside from the cover) costs much more and we recommend against it unless there is going to be a lot of color used inside the book.

What to Include

Front Cover

You'll obviously need to include your book title and your name as you would like it to appear on the front cover.

Back Cover

You'll need to include a summary, author's comments, or recommendations etc. to be placed on the back.  This take up the bulk of the back cover.  We recommend no more than 100-125 words.  Font size can be adjusted to fit properly but obviously you want it to be readable.

Include some information about the author.  This can be something professional such as the school you graduated from, your degree, the job you currently work, or previous books.  Or it can be personal such as information about your spouse and children or information about your church membership or even your hobbies.

If you wish to include a photo on the back cover, be sure to select one that you want to show off.  We recommend sending us a large digital image and we will work to make it the right size.  The image will appear on the cover as approximately one inch wide by one and one half inches high, however, the image will look much larger than this when viewing it on a computer screen.  We recommend pictures that have a resolution of 300 dpi which means your image should be at least 300 x 450 pixels.

If you don't have access to a digital image or prefer to use a photograph that's already been printed, many places will now scan photographs for you and provide you with a disk that contains the digital image.

If you plan to purchase an ISBN, either through us or separately, please let us know as it takes up some amount of space on the bottom right corner of the back cover.

You have the option of having the Glorified Publishers logo placed on the back of your book.  Depending on whom your book is targeted, you may or may not wish to have this.  The logo will be smaller and clearer on the book cover.  It will be made to blend in with the rest of you back cover.
